With the complete revamp of the Black Ops 2 multiplayer, Treyarch has announced yet another new feature: skill-based matchmaking. Unlike previous Call of Duty games in which matchmaking is based on such criteria’s as location and connection speed, Black Ops 2 multiplayer matchmaking will be based on a players skill level as well.
The new matchmaking system will place each player in one of 7 seasonal brackets based on performance. This will purely depend on a player’s skills and players will move up or down the ranks based on their performance. Initially players will be placed in one of the seven brackets based on the performance of the first few games online. Additionally players will be placed in smaller groups of 500-1000 gamers of the same skill level versus the entire Black Ops 2 multiplayer community.
“Black Ops 2 multiplayer experience is going to fit every type of player regardless of their play style or skill at all levels, while remaining faithful to the core of what people have come to expect from Call of Duty multiplayer” said design director David Vonderhaar. “It’s just not very fun when I get the shit kicked out of me. It also isn’t that much fun if I constantly kick the shit out of you. Beating people senseless can get boring.”
It will be interesting to see how this new matchmaking system will work out since it has the ability to make or break the multiplayer experience. Visit our Black Ops 2 multiplayer news section for all the latest details from GamesCom.
