Way back in 2010, Activision and Microsoft (XBOX) signed a contract to launch all future DLC on Xbox 360 ahead of other platforms. This Xbox 360 exclusivity deal remains valid until the ending of 2012, and all Call of Duty DLC will release at first on Xbox 360 for the time being.
However with the recent introduction of the Call of Duty Elite service with Modern Warfare 3, a lot of confusion has risen regarding the release dates of DLC’s. Many PS3 gamers who purchased Premium Elite memberships figured that they will also receive all DLC at the same time as XBOX 360 Premium Elite members. However this was not the case, and let’s not forget that the ELITE service is not even available on the PC platform due to security concerns.
In a recent interview with VentureBeat, Thomas Tippl, chief operating officer of Activision Blizzard, stated “he does not anticipate changes to the company’s policy of releasing Call of Duty multiplayer content on Xbox Live before it does on other platforms”.
Does this imply Activision and Microsoft is going to continue their exclusivity contract for Black Ops 2? Most likely and let’s not forget that following the announcement of this deal back in 2010, Sony signed an identical deal with EA for Battlefield 3, which has all DLC releasing on PS3 first.
Do you think Activision should renew this deal with Xbox, or should they allow all Premium ELITE members on all platforms to receive DLC’s at the same time?
